Come explore with me are the words of my six year old daughter as we hike along the creek that flows through our farm. While she's exploring and finding raccoon tracks and clamshells, I'm searching for my next painting. Although the land is familiar, the scene changes with lighting, seasons, and weather. Every time we are out exploring, I discover something wonderful that God has either hidden or blatantly placed in front of me. On this particular day, I found a creek that was still icy on the edges. Snow and ice from the last storm had melted for the most part. Here, under the shadow of a red dirt cliff eroded by the very creek at its feet, was a frozen bar of ice. The entire scene waited patiently to be captured by my camera. The sun above shown on the cliff's fuzzy dry grass edge projecting nature's halo. In the imagination of my daughter, she squealed the words, "look Mom, we found a glacier." I knew then, I had found my next painting.
